4 Skincare Rules for A Big Difference

skincare rules

Before the end of the year, there is still a bit of time for you to enhance your overall skin care experience. Something as simple as the order of product application, or a dedicated dosha-based regimen can make a huge difference in your skin, especially when it faces the daily challenge of environmental grime, including toxins, pollution, and free radicals.

Here are the 4 skincare rules that can make a big difference this holiday season:

Optimizing the Use of Active Ingredients

The scattershot (and basically unscientific) addition of multiple active ingredients such as Retinol, Ceramides, Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, Chemical exfoliants and other active ingredients combined in a single formula can actually be detrimental. When overused, especially in higher concentrations, these can cause redness, peeling, and irritation, which can disrupt the skin’s pH balance, causing damage to the skin’s protective barrier.

Puraveda Organics formulas are optimized with the right set of ingredients -. Follow your personalized dedicated dosha-based regimen (recommended for your skin type) to experience improved, long-lasting results.

Understanding Skin Cycles

There is no short-cut to great skincare. One of the crucial skincare rules is that any new regimen with new products will take at least 28 days (depending on your age & present skin condition) before you start to see some initial / visible results. Some patience and setting reasonable expectations will yield the best results.

Here’s everything you need to know about your skin cycles.  Read on to find out why it is important to track your skincare progress

The Free Radical Scavenging Phenomenon

Free radicals are highly reactive oxygen species (think of them as unpaired electrons that are looking for buddies with whom they can combine and form an oxidative/reactive molecule). These free radicals are dangerous to the integrity of your skin cells, as they are the primary causative agents of skin aging.

Pollution, lifestyle, and other environmental factors as well as your genetics can determine how your body neutralizes or removes these free radicals. For instance, if you live in an area with a high UV index such as New Zealand (~11), Norway (~7), or Peru (~11), or areas with high industrial pollution, your skin is exposed to these reactive oxidative stressors.  Lifestyle habits such as smoking and highly processed ‘junk food’  also play an important contributory role.

When your skin or dermal  cells are attacked by this ‘oxidative stress’, it affects several different layers of skin, and damages the collagen-elastin skin matrix as well as your cells’ actual DNA. The phenomenon hastens the loss of collagen, leading to the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, hyperpigmentation – sometimes much earlier than expected. (learn more)

While it is normal for you to be exposed to these free radicals every day, you can limit damage by protecting your skin with super powerful natural ‘Antioxidants’. Naturally obtained Vitamin A, C, and E, Quercetin, Catechins (in Green Tea), Azadirachtin (in Neem), Anthocyanins (in Blueberries), Polyphenols (in Tamarind, Hawthorn Berries) are some of the most effective antioxidants we use in our 100% organic & wild-crafted formulas to protect your skin from premature aging.

The Importance of Exfoliation

However exhausting your week may be, it’s important that you don’t  you don’t skip weekly exfoliation. Exfoliation with Papaya fruit enzymes removes dead skin cells and deep seated debris, promoting faster skin cell turnover by removing these excess toxins and free radicals.  Our PVO Papaya & Honey Exfoliation Mask & Scrub (or SBR Facial Mask for Sensitive skin) brightens skin while allowing our skin care products to penetrate more fully, and thus work more efficiently.  Exfoliate as directed 2-3X times a week for the most optimal effect.
