Can Your Dosha Change?

dosha

Dosha’ is an Ayurvedic approach that seeks to explain the constitution of your unique body’s genetics (in terms of the “fire, water, and earth elements”). These Doshas are divided into three types – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha..and every individual has a Predominant Dosha Type that intrinsic to their physiology from birth throughout life.

‘To determine (or confirm) your personal dosha (and get  product recommendations ), go through our simple Dosha Test.’

However, due to the influence of etiological or environmental factors, sometimes, your Predominant Dosha Type can become dysregulated for a temporary period…

Here’s why this dosha shift may happen…

Why Doshas Change?

A change in dosha can cause your skin to deviate from how it normally behaves. Dosha may change due to both internal and external factors.

  • External Factors include – Prolonged exposure to the sun, extreme & sudden climatic changes, pollution, environmental changes, and poor food choices or lifestyle habits.
  • Internal Factors include – Hormonal imbalances, aging, genetics, pregnancy, among others,

How to Correct Temporary Dosha Change

Here’s how you can correct some of the most frequently experienced dosha imbalances:

1.   Dehydrated skin

Dehydrated skin usually occurs when there’s prolonged exposure to the sun, extreme weather conditions (cold or heat), anti-nourishing food/drinking/lifestyle habits, or poor use of moisturizers.

While skin dehydration can occur with any skin type, those with Vata & Pitta doshas are the most affected ones. The signs of dehydrated skin are loss of elasticity, visible fine lines, increased sensitivity, undereye circles, dullness, redness, inflammation, and/or itchiness.

To restore hydration balance, the easiest way to deal with this issue is to use an efficient hydrating moisturizer. Some of the most effective moisturizing ingredients are – Aloe Vera and Cold-pressed Oils of Jojoba, Hempseed, Apricot Kernel, Olive, Grapeseed, Sweet Almond, or Evening Primrose.

How To Restore Skin Dehydration with PVO?

First: Carry a refreshing Organic Hydrator/Toner with you for misting dehydrated  skin on the go. Drink plenty of water.. Frequent hydration/ quenching allows the skin to retain water externally. As an adjunct, our Hydrators restore pH balance and can be used as a preventive treatment as well.

Second: Use BioScience Peptide Complex (2X times a day) for locking in moisture and repairing the signs of dehydrated skin.

2.   Excessive Oiliness in Kapha Skin

Production of excess oils/ sebum is largely due to genetic, hormonal, and seasonal factors. The breakdown of the skin’s acid mantle or pH imbalance can also affect those with oily skin.  Your skin can also start producing excess oil when it is not getting enough hydration and is thus attempting to counterbalance with overproduction of sebum.

How To Restore Excess Oil Production?

Use our Pore Perfect Regimen to balance excess oil/ sebum production and also tone pores. The three crucial products to be used in this line are – Pore Perfect Cleanser, Pore Perfect Hydrator/Toner, and BioScience Peptide Complex.

3.   Loss of Net Hyaluronic Acid Levels

There is a fine difference between skin dehydration and dryness of the skin. While dehydration is temporary, skin dryness can be a permanent feature of mature Vata/Pitta skin. Aging and loss of net natural hyaluronic acid (and collagen-elastin) from the skin can be evident in the form of dryness, fine lines, and loss of elasticity. Increased incidences of inflammation can also be seen in Rosacea, Psoriasis, and Eczema affected people.

Some of the best ingredients that restore dryness and moisture balance in dry/pitta skin are – Shea Butter, Nut seed oils, CoQ10, and most importantly naturally-derived Hyaluronic Acid (HA).
