FAQs on Rosacea

rosacea faqs

If you suffer from rosacea, we doubt you will find it comforting that this is actually ‘Rosacea Awareness Month’!  We get it! Rosacea is nothing to be celebrated… However, it’s  important to know that while rosacea cannot be ‘cured’ , rosacea CAN be efficiently Managed. And here @PVO (PuraVeda Organics) we have had great success over the years helping clients do just that..and we can help you get started with our revolutionary SBR Regimen

While you are nourishing, strengthening, and rejuvenating your somewhat difficult and definitely delicate skin, here are some key concerns that are important to address:

1. What Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous (skin) condition that causes long-term redness, bumps, visible blood vessels, and ‘flushing’. It most often occurs on the face, scalp, neck, chest, and back and is common in the age group of 30 to 60 years and can affect both men & women. However, rosacea has also been seen in children and younger adults. Ocular rosacea also affects the eyes.

Rosacea consists primarily of four subtypes and you should consult your dermatologist before you seek alternative treatments. (Modern Western medicine has failed many if not the majority of our clients where Ayurveda has been proven to work for them)

    2. What Causes Rosacea?

The exact reason for rosacea is still unknown, however, there are some extensive studies.

One of the reasons is an overgrowth of skin bacteria and demodex mites, responsible for initiating immunological reactions. This swells/ dilates the blood vessels on the affected area. As more blood flows near the surface of the skin, the skin appears red and can progress into development of papular pustules (red bumps), similar to acne, and other inflammatory symptoms.

This appears to be primarily due to the sufferers ethnicity and genetics.

      3. What Are the Symptoms of Rosacea?

Midlife pimples or red bumpy blemishes, persistent skin redness, and easily irritated skin are some of the most conspicuous characteristics of rosacea. Other symptoms include visible veins (spider veins), swollen bumps, burning sensation, eye problems, and even a reddened enlarged nose can be a result.

        4. What Triggers Rosacea Flares?

Stress, both internal and external, such as exposure to extreme weather (heat or cold), avoiding sun protection, certain lifestyle habits (such as alcohol consumption, smoking, spicy food, and use of harsh skin care formulas), exposure to allergens, and even practices such as hot baths can initiate a rosacea “flare”. Rosacea is a condition which waxes and wanes, making it especially difficult to treat, as so many people turn to alternatives when in the middle of yet another frustrating flare..and the skin is highly sensitive to even formulas that will eventually be of great help, which can neccessitate dilution of the product at first and more sparing use.  The good news is that over time, your skin can be ‘trained’ to be less sensitive and less prone to these flares.

          5. How Common is Rosacea?

You are not alone! Rosacea affects ~5% of the global population, including about 16 million people in the USA. About 14% of caucasian women have rosacea, about 5% are men. Although the more severe episodes in rosacea tend to be in men.

            6. Can Rosacea be Misdiagnosed as Acne?

Rosacea can often be misdiagnosed as acne, especially when you or your family has no previous history or you are of darker complexion. However, the two conditions and their treatment line are completely different.

              7. Can Rosacea Be Cured?

The symptoms of Rosacea can be very effectively managed with Puraveda Organics Award Winning Rosacea Treatment (Pitta Dosha/ SBR Regimen). We have achieved a 95+% success rate with thousands of clients over the years. However, it is important to once again reiterate that since it is a chronic condition, the disorder cannot be completely cured. Therefore the client needs to be diligent in their rosacea regimen for the best results.

                8. Can Rosacea Go Away On its Own?

With no treatment and persistent neglect, rosacea worsens over time. It can gradually develop into more permanent redness, spider veins, papules, pain and disfigurement of facial features, particularly the nose.

                  9. What is the Treatment for Rosacea?

At Puraveda Organics, our Sensitive, Blemished, and Rosacea-prone (SBR/Pitta) Skin Care Line is dedicated to rosacea patients and people with sensitive skin. Individual formulas are made with 100% USDA Organic, Ayurvedic, and Sustainable Plant-based Ingredients that heal and treat the underlying cause of redness. The 4 key products in this line are:

When you have rosacea, it is important not to further irritate your skin using harsh soap or cleansers, highly acidic/basic ingredients, vigorous rubbing or scrubbing. Use only gentle, toxic/synthetic chemical-free formulas for calming the symptoms.

“With over 14+ years of research, we have found that a clinically proven blend of soothing botanicals like Neem, Horsetail, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Comfrey, Calendula, Ginkgo, White Willow Bark, and many others – not only calm the symptoms of rosacea but also confer ongoing therapeutic and healing benefits without side effects.”

                    10. What Results Can You Expect?

PVO’s SBR Regimen instills instant calmness on the very first application. With continuous usage of our recommended SBR Regimen, successful results can be seen (with exceptional reductions in episodes of flares) within 14 to 28 days. This efficient ‘rosacea management’ treatment needs to be continued for life to prevent relapses. (Note that this is true as well with modern Western dermatological interventions such as antibiotics etc)

                      11. Can You Combine Anti-aging Treatment with Rosacea Formulas?

Most of the time the answer to this question is “No”, they are too irritating.  However, with Puraveda Organics, the answer is a resounding YES! Our SBR Serum can be combined with **BioScience Peptide Complex (with Argireline & Matrixyl Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, Gotu Kola, and more) for younger looking rosacea skin.

**Please note that it is best to wait until an intense rosacea flare has been brought under control before introducing BioScience as it may initially cause further redness/irritation.  We are available to consult regarding when and how to introduce it and if it needs to be diluted at first.

Do NOT opt for anti-aging solutions having ingredients like retinol/retinoids or their derivatives, or synthetic chemicals as they can make the condition worse.

                        12. What Type of Sunscreen Is Good for Rosacea Patients?

Everyone with rosacea should use a broad spectrum (UVA, UVB, & UVC protection), mineral based (non-nano Zinc Oxide/ Titanium Dioxide) organic sunscreen with an SPF of 30+.

                          13. What Can Be Used to Treat the Inflammatory Component of Rosacea?

At Puraveda Organics, we provide painless and calming, dermatologically approved topical solutions for rosacea. If you haven’t tried before or taken the Dosha quiz, you can consult a dermatologist to know the real cause and your rosacea subtype. Note that if you are at a more acute stage, some oral antibiotics or treatment plans may be prescribed by your doctor.
