Skincare Mistakes that can Trigger Rosacea

rosacea

Serious dedicated (and scientific) skincare is an indispensable part of rosacea management. Early diagnosis, gentle treatment, and proper guidance is the most scientific way of dealing with rosacea, and helping your skin behave ‘normally & remain calm’ throughout all seasons.

This chronic skin disorder affects more than 16 million Americans. Once you have learned the basics of rosacea, here are some skincare mistakes you should be aware of when self-managing rosacea:

Note: The upcoming month of April has been declared as an “Awareness month for Rosacea” by the National Rosacea Society. Keep a check on this blog as we will be sending out some essential information to help you better manage and control rosacea flares/ pitta dosha with our revolutionary SBR Regimen. If you haven’t done it yet, subscribe to our newsletter now!

1. Patch Testing

A ‘patch test’ is a simple way to find out a possible allergic reaction that may lead to itching, redness, or other symptoms of inflammation on the skin.

When trying out a new product, you should always apply a tiny amount on your skin and leave it on to see if a reaction develops. The wait time shall be up to 24 hours before fully incorporating it in your regimen.

Despite our products being made with 100% safe and natural ‘generally regarded as “hypoallergenic” ie; highly unlikely to cause a reaction in the majority of users’ ingredients, here at Puraveda Organics nevertheless recommend our clients to perform a simple patch test before trying any of our products.

Note that for some of our formulas such as blemish and mask treatments, a slight tingling sensation is generally completely normal as a result of the drawing action of our natural botanicals and earth minerals. However, if any kind of allergic reaction (itching/hives) persists, discontinue use and contact our customer support.

2. Sun Exposure

A study by the National Rosacea Society found that ~81% of the sample respondents had intensified rosacea flares with sun exposure. Dermatologists recommend that everyone should apply a broad spectrum sunscreen in the daytime to minimize the chances of uncontrollable rosacea flushing and redness.

Our PVO SunProtect SPF 30+ has easily applied micronized (but never Nano-particulated!) natural mineral Zinc Oxide, Organic SPF Oils, and antioxidant-rich botanicals, which reflect up to 98% of UVA, UVB, and UVC rays, protecting your skin against oxidative stress, and optimizing skin moisture levels. This should be the 4th step of your regimen. Precede with our Pitta-dosha Morning SBR Regimen for best results.

3. Harsh Ingredients

Rosacea signs and symptoms can vary greatly. However, consistent use of toxic formulations, harsh cleansers, acne medications, and substandard cosmetics have always affected rosacea patients by damaging the all important pH barrier and disturbing the skins’ delicate microbiome balance

OTC skin care formulas often contain ingredients like alcohol, artificial/synthetic perfumes and fragrances, dyes and pigments, sulfates, parabens and preservatives. These chemicals not only trigger rosacea flares, making it difficult to restore normal skin balance, but also bio-accumulate which can cause long-term health issues. Prolonged use of harsh topical “whitening or lightening” creams such as hydroquinone may also lead to a disruptive condition called steroid-induced rosacea.

Along with prescription therapies recommended by your doctor, always ensure that you use gentle skincare. Never use harsh cleansers and exfoliants on skin. Our SBR Regimen is a dermatologically-approved skincare line that calms rosacea redness flares and blemishes, and treats the underlying cause of redness within 4 weeks of daily usage. This minimalist regimen consists of organic cleanser, hydrator/toner, anti-aging serum, 2-3X p/w facial mask, and daily sunscreen, taking care of your skin 24/7.

4. Products designed for Rosacea

Rosacea is a unique condition and so is its treatment. Using formulas that are designed for other conditions frequently worsen rosacea. Look for labels that specify that the product is made for rosacea-prone, or at least sensitive skin. Use the recommended regimen consistently. Skipping regimens or switching between products too frequently can disrupt your skin’s balance, bringing your progress back to square one.

Rosacea can be controlled and treated. Avoid these simple triggers, explore our clean beauty regimen specifically designed and proven effective for the vast majority of users, and experience greater freedom and calmness for a lifetime with PVO…
