The Signs of Aging Skin

signs of aging

Your skin is continually communicating its health status to you.  We commonly call these the ‘Signs of Aging‘.

The earliest signs of aging can appear as early as our mid-to-late 20s. Depending on Dosha (or skin type), as we progress into our 30s and 40s, repeated facial muscle contractions along with biological and external factors, such as excess sun or cigarette smoking can intensify these signs, including deepening of lines, loss of skin elasticity & definition, uneven skin tone, and so on,

The sooner you can identify these, and start a dedicated personalized Puraveda Organics Anti-aging Treatment, the more are the chances of you – aging like a fine wine

Early Signs of Aging

I. Dry or Rough Skin Texture

Dry skin or xerosis is one of the first signs of aging skin. It is different from dehydrated skin – a temporary effect (learn more). Dry skin is due to loss of natural hyaluronic acid /net water content and underactive sebacious glands. The skin’s hydrolipidic film also loses its power. As a result, the barrier is less effective in retaining water naturally, causing dryness and rough skin texture.

II. Age Spots, Dull Skin, or Uneven Skin Tone

Age Spots are commonly due to repeated exposure to UV light or as a  side effect of certain products/ingredients (such as hydroquinone or chemical bleach).  These spot areas have overactive pigment cells (or melanocytes) – giving it an uneven appearance. They are often flat brown, gray or black.

Interestingly, age spots/ hyperpigmentation/ blotches are noticeably visible on skin over 40,  fair skin, and those who frequently use tanning beds.

Did you know?: DevaBright is our unique proprietary blend of Kojic Acid (from mushrooms), Licorice Root, and Uva ursi (or Bearberry). The trio in our BioScience Peptide Complex and SunProtect SPF 30+ is super effective in restoring even skin tone regardless of age, complexion, or skin type.

III. Visible Pores

As you lose collagen, elastin, and natural oils, the pores widen and become more visible. Enlargement of pores can also be due to blockage and a long history of poor skin care or maintenance.

IV. Fine lines or Wrinkles

The gradual drop in estrogen levels, accompanied by certain intrinsic (skin type or genetics) and extrinsic factors (such as exposure to UV rays and pollutants or use of inferior low-quality products) leads to lower production/ breakdown of collagen-elastin fibers. There is also loss of fat and natural oil production.

A chain reaction takes place and the skin soon becomes very fragile. This is followed by appearance of fine lines or wrinkles on the surface.

Editor’s Pro Anti-aging Solution: An effective and clinically proven solution to replenish this loss is by introduction of biomimetic skin Peptides (Argireline and Matrixyl) and natural collagen-boosting botanicals to your skin. The Peptides and anti-aging ingredients like Gotu Kola, Green Tea, and CoQ10 in Bioscience Peptide Complex slows down facial muscle contractions and elevates overall collagen synthesis up by 117%! Deep wrinkles are also reduced by ½, when used beyond two skin cycles (or about 60 days) of regular application.

  V. Sagging Skin

Here’s a task – Browse through photos of yourself over the past decade. Do you notice a loss of definition? or Does your skin appears gradually droopy or sagging?

While skin sagging is natural, it can happen more quickly due to genetic, oxidative stress, pollution, prolonged exposure to the sun, smoking, poor nutrition, and certain chronic illnesses.

Weakening of the dermis and loss of collagen-elastin matrix leads to skin sagging.

VI. Volume Loss

In the younger years, our skin is supported by strong facial muscles and more fat. However, it is partly due to breakdown of collagen (spring and ‘bounce’) and partly due to loss of fat, that the skin becomes thinner and loses its plumpness. This volume loss is more pronounced in Vata (or Dry Skin) followed by Pitta (Sensitive), and Kapha (Oily) skin.
