As we conclude our Most Asked Skincare FAQs series, we turn to two of the most complex and often misunderstood skincare concerns— “Acne & Breakouts” and “Rosacea & Sensitive Skin”.

While they may appear similar on the surface, each requires a distinctly refined approach, rooted in a deeper understanding of skin physiology and balance. In this final chapter, we bring together dermatological expertise and elevated Ayurvedic care, addressing your most pressing questions with clarity.

Acne and Breakouts

#1 How do I know what type of acne I have (the difference between whiteheads, blackheads, and cystic acne)?

Acne/ blemishes can look different depending on their type:

  • Whiteheads are usually small, closed bumps (at surface-level) with white-colored top. They are caused due to blocked pores (oil + dead skin + dirt/debris build up) trapped under the skin and have mild involvement of acne-causing bacteria – Cutibacterium acnes (formerly called Propionibacterium acnes).
  • Blackheads are open pores that look “black” due to oxidation of oil and dead skin trapped inside the pores. They’re usually flat or slightly raised and have more to do with skin hygiene than bacterial involvement.
  • Cystic acne is a very painful blemish, set deep under the skin. As it matures, it shows a visible head that can feel tender/ throbbing. Cystic acne is caused by severe inflammation and overgrowth of Cutibacterium acnes and requires more targeted care.

#2 Is acne always related to oily skin?

No, acne isn’t limited to oily skin. While excess oil, accompanied (with major pH and hormonal imbalance) can contribute to blocked pores, acne can also occur in dry, combination, or sensitive skin due to dead skin buildup, poor hygiene, bacterial overgrowth, and inflammation.

#3 What is the ideal skincare routine for acne-prone skin?

#4 How does “inflammation control” help prevent long-term blemishes in oily skin?

Controlling inflammation early is the key to preventing acne from forming and progressing. When the skin remains calm, clean, and balanced, pores are less likely to become blocked, irritated, or infected—reducing the risk of breakouts.

To address this effectively, Puraveda Organics’ Pore Perfect (PP) Line has been carefully formulated to support your skin’s natural defense against bacterial overgrowth and inflammation. With consistent use, it is proven to keep pores clear, minimize breakouts, and promote a balanced, healthier-looking complexion each day, every day.

#5 Why did my skin worsen after starting a new product?

If you’re using a potent new product, your skin might go through a temporary “purging phase” (skin purging v. breakouts – learn more), where active ingredients speed up cellular turnover and bring the underlying congestion to the surface—leading to short-term/ mild breakouts. But if the irritation persists or is very aggressive, it could mean the product isn’t suitable for your skin or is further compromising your pH barrier to make the condition worse.

At Puraveda Organics, all our products are  safe, hypoallergenic,  and clinically proven. Still, we recommend doing a patch test 24-hours prior to using any new product, especially if you have hypersensitive skin or using new products on an already inflamed skin. For SBR treatment line, start with easy product dilutions (learn more).

#6 Should I moisturize if I have acne?

Yes—moisturizing is  essential, even if you have ongoing acne or have kapha dosha. In fact, skipping this essential step can make your skin produce more oil to compensate, which leads to further breakouts.

Our moisturizing serums are non-comedogenic and lightweight, making them perfect for intense hydration without blocking your pores. BioScience + Rejuv Serum (for skin under 35) and BioScience + Collagen Boost Serum (for skin over 35) is essential to restore hormonal balance, improve pH barrier strength, hydrate, reduce irritation, and support faster healing. Use Bioscience + SBR Serum specifically, if you have Sensitive/ Rosacea-prone skin.

#7 What is non-comedogenic skincare and how do I know if a product is blocking my pores?

When you use products with comedogenic (pore-blocking/ occlusive) ingredients, the microscopic components get trapped/ sit heavily on the skin – leading to frequent bumps, blackheads, and breakouts, especially in the areas where they’re applied. In contrast, non-comedogenic skincare is formulated to keep pores clear and prevent blockages, making it a key step in effectively managing and preventing acne.

At Puraveda Organics, our formulations prioritize non-comedogenic and skin-compatible ingredients, following clean standards comparable to EWG guidelines, where most ingredients fall within 0-2 ratings (for comparison, most commercial products includes ingredients rated alarmingly @ 3 to 5 – indicating a strong likelihood of congestion/ irritation/acne). Undoubtedly, non-comedogenic and breathable skincare supports clearer, healthier-looking skin.

#8 How long do blemishes typically take to fade?

As explained above, dosha-based treatment lines will start showing results in 14-28 days, with cumulative improvement in each skin turnover cycle. On the other hand, spot fix treatments will soothe instantly and diminish the appearance of sudden breakouts in less than 48 hours.

Note that both our BioScience Peptide Complex and SunProtect SPF 30+ contain proprietary “DevaBright” blend (with Kojic Acid, Licorice Root and Uva ursi) that naturally treats “acne spots” and post-acne uneven skin tone – with positive results in 3-4 months of regular use.

Rosacea & Sensitive Skin

#9 Why does my skin flush or redden so easily?

Frequent flushing is linked to increased vascular reactivity – meaning, the facial blood vessels dilate easily in response to extrinsic/intrinsic triggers such as heat, sun, stress, microbes (such as demodex mites in case of rosacea) or harsh skincare ingredients/ products. You may also experience accompanying symptoms like burning, stinging, dryness, visible capillaries, or acne-like bumps.

A weakened skin barrier or those born with predominantly Pitta dosha skin type/ having an underlying inflammation/ chronic inflammatory skin disorders like rosacea/psoriasis/eczema) should seek early professional skin assessment to ensure timely and appropriate treatment.

#10 How do I know if I have rosacea skin or general sensitive skin?

Rosacea presents as persistent redness, frequent flushing, visible capillaries, and acne-like bumps. Dermatologists primarily diagnose rosacea through a clinical skin examination and history of triggers. In some cases, they may use dermoscopy (skin surface imaging) to assess visible blood vessels, or perform patch tests to rule out allergic reactions and confirm sensitivity rather than rosacea.

In contrast, sensitive skin is more generalized—characterized by temporary irritation, stinging, or dryness in response to certain allergens/ chemicals or environmental factors, without lasting redness.

The good news – PVO’s SBR Lineworks equally well for both Rosacea and generalized skin sensitivity (including Psoriasis and Eczema). Find out if you have sensitive/rosacea skin, with this Dosha Quiz

#11 How should I care for rosacea-prone or clinically sensitive skin daily?

Achieve a healthier complexion with Puraveda Organics SBR (Sensitive, Blemished & Rosacea) Regimen for Pitta Dosha:

The SBR system trains your skin to become less likely to flare, while eliminating redness, flaking, dryness, and blemishes. Treats inflammation at its source and prevents flares from occurring in the future.

#12 What kind of ingredients should I avoid and what should I look for in the labels?

Always avoid products made with artificial fragrances, synthetic  chemicals, mineral oils and petroleum based ingredients, strong surfactants like sulfates, alcohol-based formulations and other unclean/toxic ingredients (read more).

At Puraveda Organics, we follow a zero-tolerance towards use of toxic and skin sensitizing  ingredients – focusing instead on clinically balanced, plant-based formulations that calms and supports long-term skin resilience. Some hand-picked  ingredients @PVO labs for treating rosacea/sensitive skin : Comfrey (allantoin), White Willow Bark Extract (natural Salicylic acid), Gotu Kola, Grapeseed Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Vitamin A, Neem, Vitamin C bioflavonoids, and more.

#13 Why does my skin react differently on some days?

Day-to-day fluctuations are often driven by subtle shifts in triggers such as climate, UV exposure, stress levels, diet, hormonal changes, and even your skin microbiome. (Explore more on how your Dosha changes according to different triggers – here).

If you have rosacea-prone skin, this variability is further influenced by vascular sensitivity, where blood vessels respond more readily to the triggers, leading to frequent episodes of flushing or inflammation.

#14 Can sensitive skin become stronger over time?

Yes— our SBR treatment is award winning and proven effective, in resetting sensitive skin to become significantly more resilient over time. This is done by repairing the barrier, reducing chronic inflammation, and maintaining microbiome balance. The goal is to train your skin to respond suo motu – calmly and efficiently and not just to strengthen the barrier. Results in 14-28 days of use.

#15 I am confused – are those rosacea flares or acne?

Rosacea shows persistent redness, flushing, and sensitivity, often with burning or visible capillaries accompanied with small, red, inflamed papules or pustules, triggered by heat or stress.

Acne, however, involves blocked pores—like blackheads, whiteheads, or deeper pimples/ cystic acne—without the constant redness throughout your face.

So if your skin is consistently red and reactive, it’s likely rosacea; if it’s more about localized breakouts and congestion, it’s likely acne.

#16 Why is pH barrier repair critical in rosacea management?

Strengthening the barrier reduces reactivity, improves hydration, and protects against triggers, making flare-ups less frequent and easier to manage over time. The SBR cleanser is formulated without harsh detergents, helping preserve the skin’s natural pH barrier instead of disrupting it—a key step in preventing flare-ups. Botanicals like Neem, White Willow, and Comfrey in SBR Hydrator/Toner provide anti-inflammatory support and reduce microbial imbalance (including Demodex sensitivity in rosacea). Additionally, cold-pressed oils, vitamins, and plant actives in SBR Serum restore lipid balance, improves moisture retention, and reinforces the skin’s protective layer. With consistent use, the regimen is designed to reduce skin hypereactivity, redness, and flare cycles.

#17 Is daily sun protection necessary for rosacea?

Yes – and it’s indispensable! Use our SunProtect SPF 30+ Broad Spectrum Mineral Sunscreen for protecting against sunburn, redness, and UV damage in sensitive/ rosacea-prone skin.
