In today’s looks conscious society, both men and women are ready to spend a small fortune, and risk of exposing themselves to reactive chemicals, lasers, and potentially harmful bleaching agents to brighten the skin and restore an even complexion!
However it’s important to understand that nothing works better and is more long-lasting (not to mention safe) than what nature can provide.
Uva ursi (Arctostaphylos uva ursi), also known as ‘Bearberry’, the first writings of it’s use going back as far as 2nd-century (!) Ayurvedic botanical lore, being used since those times to naturally brighten and restore even skin tone. Safe for all skin types, Uva Ursi, especially in combination with other natural skin brightening botanicals provide a long-lasting, beautiful complexion, without the harmful side effects of chemicals such as hydroquinone..
How Are Bearberries/ Uva ursi Obtained?
The bright red-colored ripened berries of the trailing evergreen shrub are sustainably hand-gathered from the Alpine forests of North America, Europe, the Himalayas, the Iberian Peninsula, and Siberia.
Only the finest quality bearberries are sorted, crushed, and processed to obtain a liquid extract/ astringent, using traditional methods at the PVO lab. The process locks the phytoactive potential/nutritive value of the berries before they are finally introduced into our formulas.
Uva ursi and DevaBright
Our revolutionary proprietary blend ‘DevaBright‘ contains concentrated extracts of Uva ursi. The ingredient works synergistically with Kojic Acid (extracted from fermented mushrooms) and Licorice Root (Yashtimadhu) extract combined in optimal ratios to naturally balance melanin production in your skin.
Our DevaBright® is utilized in a perfect concentration in both Puraveda Organics’ – ‘Bioscience Peptide Complex‘ and ‘Sun Protect SPF30+‘.
These two Award Winning products are your Everyday Essentials to:
- Prevent the early signs of aging skin. ie; wrinkles, fine lines, loss of elasticity and turgor, thinning and weakening of the collagen net, leading to sagging skin.
- Protect the skin from harmful UV rays,
- Treat hyperpigmentation, and
- Heal irritated skin and fade scars.
The Active Components in Bearberry – A Tyrosinase Inhibitor
The results with Bearberry are frequently superior in clinical trials to Hydroquinone (the current skin brightening staple in Western medicine/commercial skincare/cosmetic formulations, but unfortunately also a toxic chemical with problematic potential consequences). In striking contrast to Hydroquinone, Bearberry has no side effects.
The restorative ability of Bearberry as an anti-hyperpigmentation ingredient is due to its high concentration of the phytoactive – ‘Arbutin‘. It is a natural glucopyranoside with a hydroquinone molecule bound to glucose. Arbutin reversibly inhibits tyrosinase activity to facilitate the even production of melanin (the skin pigment) in the area of application.
The phytoactive goes deeper within your skin and works as a similar function to sunscreen. Arbutin takes about 1 to 2 mos to show significant, but cumulative effects.
Bearberry extract is also contains concentrated antioxidants like berberine, tannic acid, and natural hydroquinone. These antioxidants neutralize free radicals (unstable atoms), thereby preventing oxidative cell damage (think of rust for a handy comparison of oxidative damage) and slowing down the visible effects of aging skin.
Bearberry is also quite effective at reducing undereye dark circles.
Should Sensitive Skin Use Bearberry in Skin Care?
Unlike other aggressive reparative ingredients, Bearberry extract is safe for all skin types, including hypersensitive or Pitta (Sensitive/Blemished/Rosacea) skin. Sensitive skin individuals should use it along with SBR Serum – A Targetted Pitta Skin Treatment (learn more) for best results.
The ingredient is compatible for both daytime and evening wear.
