While there are many commonalities in people who have rosacea the individualized ‘management/treatment’ can differ. If not addressed with a dermatologically-approved approach, rosacea flares can cause cosmetic/skin appearance issues, not to mention discomfort and unnecessary expense.
To guide you on your Rosacea skin care journey, here are some helpful tips to better manage this frustrating condition:
1. Understanding Rosacea
At first and for many, rosacea is often mistaken for a simple allergy. This can lead to ineffective “allergy” treatments, which may respond partially to anti-allergy medications, but will continue to recur and worsen. While dermatologists and practicing estheticians are the best ones to approach, some of the prominent symptoms associated with rosacea are:
- Redness and Swelling
- Raised solid pink spots (or small pus filled spots)
- Superficial and visible blood vessels
- Thickened skin
2. Rosacea Never Goes Away : But Can Be Managed!
Here’s what our client Ms. Leila Breüner Serwin says about managing her rosacea with Puraveda’s SBR Line : “I have Rosacea and diabetes. My skin had a lot of redness and a tendency to pimple. I have developed an allergy to certain wood pollens(Pine, beech, juniper, birch) and use allergy medicines for that. With confidence in Mikkel (her skin therapist and our wholesale esthetician customer) I had no doubt regarding his recommendation. So I did not hesitate trying Puraveda Organics. They have helped me a lot. They work fast and now I cannot imagine other products nor another routine.” (Read her full interview).
Like Leila, our rosacea line works wonders for the vast majority of these clients. The point is that rosacea can be managed when you know what triggers it, and what products/ingredients are compatible to your skin type. 3. The Triggering Factors of Rosacea
While the list of triggering factors for rosacea may be too long, there’s one important thing that can prompt flares – the ‘Overgrowth of Demodex mites’, a factor in every adults’ microbiome. Demodex folliculorum can be found in hair follicles, primarily on the face, eyelids, and the sebaceous glands of the skin.
These mites are absolutely a normal thing, however, they frequently occur in large numbers in rosacea patients. It is not known why.. or if rosacea patients are or have become ‘allergic’ to these microscopic entities. It is largely an inherited condition. Their presence triggers an immune response for these people. The result is what we term ‘flares’ ie; redness, sensitivity, rosacea ‘bumps’ which are frequently mistaken for an allergy to something ingested or applied. Over time, as the condition worsens, it causes thickening of the skin and damages the small blood vessels, leading to a diagnosis by a dermatologist.
4. What Works for Rosacea
If you have used topical rosacea treatments, OTC medications, gels, creams, or perhaps even spent half of your life covering the blemishes under make-up, you know the frustration of dealing with this condition first hand! Trying one thing after another. We understand rosacea is not only socially embarrassing, but also painfully uncomfortable, and financially draining!
For those who have learned to control their rosacea over the years, most have gone through a time where nothing works, until something eventually does..hopefully for a lifetime!
This is why we formulated our SBR Line – a unique clinically proven skincare line for our Rosacea/Pitta Skin patients. It’s essentially a 4-step minimalist organic regimen Cleanser + Hydrator/Toner + Serum – to be used 2X daily with a biweekly spa exfoliation. Learn more about our Rosacea Treatment/Pitta/SBR Regimen.
5. Rosacea and Anti-aging
Most topical or professional anti-aging treatments are too sensitizing and intense – something that is quite often not suitable for fragile rosacea skin. Common anti-aging ingredients like retinol, tretinion, retin-A, synthetic hydroxy acids are frequent triggers for another episode of flushing and breakouts.
So..is there any solution for rosacea patients who are also looking for anti-aging solutions? The ingredients that truly work, without side effects play an active part in two of our anti-aging products – BioScience Peptide Complex and SBR Serum (specially crafted for Rosacea/Pitta Skin). The former has skin peptides (Argireline & Matrixyl), Gotu Kola, CoQ10, and other purely botanical actives that not only gives faster and more effective anti-aging results but are also gentle on your skin. Our SBR Serum repairs the skin and eliminates the underlying cause behind redness.
**Please note that many clients find us while searching for a new solution, while in the midst of yet another flare. When this is the case, even our rosacea healing products can cause redness initially. Often we see that new clients have a ‘more is better’ approach in desperation. It should be noted that in 99.5% of the cases, when redness is exacerbated, this is NOT due to an allegy to the product, and can be resolved by dilution of the product and less frequent application until things have calmed down. Our SBR line will actually ‘train’ your skin to be less reactive. As a small company, we are available to guide you should this happen!
