How to Properly Apply Facial Sunscreen

Facial Sunscreen

Using sunscreen is a critical and extremely effective wellness habit that protects your skin from damaging UV rays, thus lowering the risk of skin cancer and premature signs of aging. But this protection is only effective when used properly.

To get the best results from your facial sunscreen, the best step is to choose a formula that gives real-time, broad spectrum sun protection. According to EWG and AAD, a non-toxic sunscreen with Zinc Oxide and an SPF of 30 provides up to 97% sun protection to you and your family.

We researched over the years and fulfilled all these checklists in our revolutionary and award-winning SunProtect SPF 30+.  Immerse your skin in an easily applied & clean, non-toxic skin-protection with a fresh beachy scent, 100% free of toxic chemicals. Here’s how to properly apply our (and your new!) favorite SunProtect SPF 30+:

1. Understanding Physical (Barrier) Sunscreens

While most sunscreens need to be applied at least 20-30 minutes prior to stepping out in the sun, our sunscreen is formulated to work immediately upon application.

Note that PVO’s SunProtect is a ‘barrier/physical sunscreen’ (not a chemical sunscreen) which works by the use of microscopic mirror-like particles acting as a shield reflecting/ deflecting the UV rays that hit the skin’ surface. Thus unlike chemical sunscreens, which need absorption into the dermis to work, the NON-nano-particulated Zinc Oxide particle shield sits on the surface and  deflects/reflects incoming radiation off the skin – instantly

For the most UV protection, reapply evenly onto your skin every 2-3 hours.

SunProtect SPF 30+ is also water and sweat resistant. Light sweating or environmental moisture will not compromise this protection. It stays with you unless washed off completely post-swimming or bathing or wiping off with a towel. In these cases a fresh application is required for continued protection.

2. Start with Cleansed Skin

A facial sunscreen should normally be the ‘last step’ of your morning skincare regimen. Start with an organic cleanser. Next, follow with your choice of organic toner/hydrator and a treatment serum/moisturizer. Well-cleaned skin minimizes the chances of build-up and ensures that the Zinc particles effectively cover the skin’ surface.  Make-up should be applied after sunscreen application.

3. Cover All Areas

SunProtect SPF 30+ is formulated with nourishing cold-pressed oils and Shea Butter, which ensures smooth application. Take a generous amount and apply it onto your facial skin. Don’t forget to focus on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin – the areas which are most prone to showing signs of sunburn/redness. The sunscreen should also be applied to exposed body areas, including decolletage, neck, back, arms, and ears.

SunProtect SPF 30+ is infused with our proprietary blend of ‘DevaBright’ (a melanin-controlling formula with Licorice Root, Kojic Acid from Mushrooms, and Uva ursi/ Bearberry). Covering all areas with the formula will restore even complexion.

4. Wear it All Day

Be it a cloudy day or a winter month, there are no exceptions to wearing a facial sunscreen. Whether you live in the Northern or the Southern Hemisphere, put it on from sunrise to sunset, especially from 10AM to 4PM and areas with medium to high UV Index. For maximum protection, cover up with protective clothing and spend the hours between 10-2 pm when possible in the shade.

We hope that these tips will help you properly apply our SunProtect SPF 30+. For full details about the application, visit the product page.
