Sensitive skin or Pitta Dosha requires dedicated, serious care, especially when it is in the midst of a flare (not sure why you have skin sensitivity? – Learn here). During this period, if you are unsure and find it difficult to calm a persistent flare (or an ongoing issue such as rosacea or dermatitis), the first thing to do is consult your dermatologist/ or an esthetician. Skincare experts typically recommend stopping all of your existing products, and switching back to a simple regimen.

Once you know the underlying cause and the degree of complication, the correct ingredients/ product combinations will gradually train your Pitta skin for lasting, lifelong results.

Before you get started with your SBR Regimen, here are 8 important guidelines to manage flares and sensitive skin with Puraveda Organics:

1. Always Choose Natural Skincare

The first step to gentle care is not exposing your sensitive skin to harsh chemicals, UV rays, and environment pollutants (learn why ).

At Puraveda Organics, our products are made of 100% organic and natural potent proven Skin Active botanical that show results in 3-4 weeks or less without causing further damage. These formulations and dosha-specific regimens are made to “train” or acclimate your skin into being less sensitive and flare prone, and are a lifelong necessity  for healthy, beautiful (and lower maintenance!) skin.

2. Controlling Demodex/ Microbial Overgrowth

Certain sensitive skin flares, such as those associated with rosacea are primarily linked to the interaction of common microbes with your skin. The Latest Finding about Rosacea by the National Rosacea Society points out that the primary reason for such rosacea flares and inflammation is the sudden overgrowth or proliferation of Demodex mites (a normal part of everyone’s microbiome on your facial skin. Dermatological science has yet to determine why this is.

Proper cleansing can reduce this Demodex population in about 2-3 weeks. Our Organic SBR Cleanser (followed by SBR Hydrator/Toner) is gentle yet hydrating enough to remove these damaging microbes, clear blocked pores, and calm reddened, irritated, inflamed skin.

3. SOS to Manage Flares and Sensitive Skin

After cleansing, or for immediate relief to flares and sensitive skin, spritz our SBR Hydrator to instantly soothe and calm redness.

4. Start Serum Treatments with a Patch Test

Using a potent serum for sensitive skin improves natural barriers, moisturizes, and treats the underlying cause of redness. A 24-hour patch test is extremely important before you try any new products. This test helps identify whether any formula/ingredient is causing irritation to your skin.

For a patch test, just apply a small quantity of the concentrated product on any part of your skin (where you will not accidentally rub it off) and then leave it on for 24 hours. If your skin reacts aggressively, immediately wash off and stop using the product.

5. Start Slow with Diluted Product Concentrations

If you are in a midst of a flare or having advanced skin sensitivity issues start slow and dilute our concentrated products (especially SBR Serum) as follows:

  • First Week : 1X per day – 75% Water (Preferably distilled) : 25% product per application.
  • Second Week : 1X per day – 50% Water (Preferably distilled) : 50% product per application.
  • Third week onwards (as redness/inflammation subsides): 2X per day – Full Strength (No Dilution)

6. Note: Slight Tingling is Normal

All our products contain highly concentrated Ayurvedic ingredients, which may naturally produce a slight tingling sensation. This is perfectly normal and means that the product has started to perform with its full potency. (Only in cases where you experience welts or serious itching, discontinue use and please consult us.  We have guided many rosacea sufferers through this process!).

7. Don’t Forget Sun Protection

Sensitive skin requires extra protection during the daytime to avoid triggers from exposure to UV rays of the sun. Using a broad-spectrum SPF like our SunProtect SPF 30+ protects the skin from UVA, UVB, and UVC rays for up to 98% complete sun protection.

8. It Takes Time to Heal

Since conditions like Psoriasis and Rosacea are genetic, the rate of results can vary from person to person. However, almost ALL of  our clients have experienced an immediate calming effect on the very first application and serious results within 3-4 weeks of use. Once your skin has calmed down, continue with the treatment. If you have other skin concerns such as anti-aging or pigmentation, you can now introduce the highest quality anti-aging peptide serum with professional-strength Actives for additional targeted results.

Our skincare is tailored to each individual’s need and all our serums are well tolerated for sensitive skin.
