According to Ayurveda, ‘Pitta’ represents the fire element. This is right in sync with Western Medicine, which tells us that Pitta skin is often prone to inflammation, quite literally ‘on fire’.

Sensitive, inflamed skin needs calming and soothing therapeutic botanicals such as Chamomile, Comfrey, Neem, Calendula, etc… Based on years of extensive Ayurvedic knowledge, our chemist at PuraVeda Organics has selectively infused these specialized plant based Skin Actives into our highly effective and Award Winning SBR Line (for Sensitive/Blemished/Rosacea skin). As the first step towards the treatment, here’s how to identify if you have Pitta or Sensitive Skin:

1. Easily Prone to Redness

Sensitive skin often shows signs of flushing. Even for the slightest trigger, a series of inflammatory skin reactions may take place, which causes Pitta skin to appear red and irritated. Some of the common triggers for sensitive skin include:

  • Exposure to irritants, heat, cold, or chemicals (including fragrances, dyes, colors, soaps, beauty and makeup products).
  • Rubber, latex, silicones, jewelry, and adhesives.
  • Certain plant products such as soy.
  • Underlying health conditions or issues such as rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema.
  • Alcohol consumption, spicy foods, and other lifestyle habits.

2. Skin Dryness

Pitta skin is often characterized by a compromised or ‘leaky barrier’ that has a poor ability to lock in moisture. This often results in extreme skin dryness and rough patches on the skin. The longer you ignore the issue, the inflammatory condition can take its most serious form.

3. Sensitivity to UV Rays

Since you have a compromised barrier, your skin is highly reactive to photosensitivity. As a result, exposure to the sunlight can cause a flush or your skin may even develop rashes. For these skin types, it becomes all the more necessary to wear a high quality barrier Sunscreen.. We recommend out SunProtect SPF 30+ – a naturally moisturized broad-spectrum sunscreen made of EWG-approved Micronized Zinc Oxide in an organic Shea butter base with many complimentary botanical ingredients.

4. Visible Capillaries

If you have rosacea, your skin is genetically thinner and has broken capillaries (also called Spider Viens or Telangiectasias). Broken capillaries have unprotected nerve endings and a Pitta imbalance may cause extreme facial redness, sensation of burning, and blemishes. The exact reason behind these broken capillaries can be confirmed by your dermatologist.

5. Medium Skin Texture

Ayurveda tells us that Pitta skin texture is between Kapha and Vata skin types. (Vata being thinner and Kapha being thicker) It is easily irritated and has a soft luster. The pores are medium and the skin usually feels warm to the touch.

6. Reactive to Extreme Weather Conditions

Pitta skin problems get worse during cool or humid weather.

Harsh weather conditions can turn your face into a red mess.  Your natural oils  be can be stripped way by cold, dry air, resulting in windburn.  As most of us know, this inflammatory condition is painful and can take days to heal.

7. Breaks Out Easily

When sensitive skin isn’t properly maintained, it can lead to blackheads and breakouts. Daily use of our PVO SBR Cleanser and SBR Hydrator/Toner is the best way to maintain pH balance of your facial skin. Additionally, exfoliation with SBR Papaya & Honey Facial Mask with ingredients like  Salicylic Acid (from White Willow Bark), Neem, and others remove microorganisms, reduce inflammation, eliminate deep-seated debris, and restore skin without irritation.

8. Prone to Aging

Sensitive skin is vulnerable to fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of volume and density, especially after your 30s. However, it can be difficult to find a Dermatologically Safe Anti-aging product that actually works for your skin type without causing side effects such as itching, burning and more redness. To derive the dual benefit of both addressing the signs of aging and treating the underlying cause of redness, we highly recommend our BioScience Peptide Complex followed by our SBR Serum
